Jewelry is meant to be worn and loved, but sometimes little problems pop up that can be frustrating. Over the years, I’ve picked up some simple tricks to fix common issues—here are a few of my go-to solutions:
- Tangled Necklaces? Lay the chain on a flat surface and use a pin or needle to gently loosen the knot. If it’s really stubborn, a drop of baby oil or dish soap helps slide the links apart.
- Earring Backs Too Loose? If my earring backs start slipping off too easily, I gently squeeze the metal clutch with pliers to tighten the grip. For rubber backs, replacing them with snug-fitting silicone ones works wonders.
- Ring Slipping Off? If a ring is too loose but I don’t want to resize it permanently, I wrap a small clear hair tie around the back of the band. There are also ring adjusters that work great for a more polished fix!
- Dull or Cloudy Gemstones? Over time, lotions and skin oils can make gemstones look cloudy. I clean mine with warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft toothbrush—it makes a huge difference!
- Bracelet or Chain Clasp Won’t Stay Shut? If a clasp starts coming undone, I use small pliers to gently pinch the clasp tighter so it holds securely.
These quick fixes have saved my favorite pieces more times than I can count. A little DIY care can keep your jewelry looking flawless without a trip to the jeweler!
